Does applying commit me to anything?
No, your application is non-binding to start with, and even after signing your employment contract you're not obliged to work any minimum amount.
What happens if there are no suitable job offers for me?
With your uniworks membership you have access to countless job offers, and we're confident we'll find the right fit for you too. If the offers don't appeal to you, you're not committed to anything. That said, we'd of course love to hear which areas we could expand into to keep you happy.
How much do I earn at uniworks?
Good work, fair pay: following this principle, we try to get you the maximum hourly wage for every job. You always earn at least €16 per hour with us – no matter which jobs you take on. Naturally, any tips (where they apply to the job in question) stay entirely with you. On top of that, your hourly wage can be higher, e.g. through bonus payments or night-shift premiums. In general, earnings at uniworks are fully transparent: you'll find all the pay details in each job description in the app.
When do I get paid?
You always receive your pay at the beginning of the following month (by the 10th at the latest). We transfer it directly to your account.
How do I get my payslip?
We give you free access to the WoltersKluwer payroll portal. There you'll find your payslips and other wage documents that you need for your tax return.
How much am I allowed to work?
As a student, during lecture periods you may work up to 20 hours per week without jeopardising your so-called working-student privilege, which exempts you from paying social security contributions. During the semester break you're allowed to work more. Your employment with uniworks is generally fixed-term, and you'll be deployed for a maximum of 70 days per year.
What taxes and contributions do I have to pay?
Since you take on a fixed-term employment as a student and are deployed for fewer than 70 days per year, you don't have to pay social security contributions. Your tax burden depends on your personal circumstances and your total income. If you earn income solely from your work at uniworks, this is usually unproblematic: you can earn up to €12,348 per year tax-free. This threshold can be raised further by claiming work-related expenses. With your tax return, you can reclaim any income tax that the tax office withheld in excess.
Can I work somewhere else alongside uniworks?
Yes, you can hold several jobs at the same time. If you have several short-term jobs, they must not add up to more than 70 days per year in total. With multiple employers, only your main employer can pay you under tax class 1. When you register, you decide whether we are your main or secondary employer.
Do I need my social security number and where do I find it?
In general, a social security number is required to start working in Germany. However, since 2023 companies can request it directly from the data centre of the pension insurance. We carry out this request when you register, so you don't need to do anything further.
Where do I find my tax ID?
Your tax identification number was sent to you by letter from the Federal Central Tax Office. If you can no longer find it and don't have an income tax assessment to hand, you can contact the BZSt. You can request your tax ID again at
www.bzst.de. It will then be sent to you by post.
